We live at a time with high lack of affordable & attainable housing. New housing being built is mostly large and expensive single family homes or mid rise apartments that will be held as rental.

Even though ownership is encouraged and a home can be many times seen as an asset, the home that you purchase to live is is actually a liability! 

Once home owners, people will be responsible for taxes, insurance, utilities, repairs and maintenance that can pile up on their expenses. A true asset is able to generate income or cashflow and a regular home to live in generally doesn’t do that for you. 
The Asset Ownership Model, also known as “House hacking” can be a great way for people to get started in ownership of real estate, as it allows them to use the rental income to help offset their mortgage payments and other expenses. It can also aid in the loan approval of lower income individuals/households as a percentage of  the future income of the extra unit can be used as income for qualification.
It is the greatest  way to set first time home buyers on a track of building generational wealth, as the property won’t be a source of expenses or liability, but a source of income, which will make that home a TRUE ASSET.
